ನಮ್ಮ ಜನರು: ಜಿಪುಣರು ಮತ್ತು ಆತುರಗಾರರು

ನನಗೆ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರೆ ಚೆನ್ನ. ಆಫೀಸಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರೂ ಚೆನ್ನ. ಇವೆರಡರ ನಡುವೆ ಇರುವ ನಗರವೂ ರಸ್ತೆಗಳೂ ಚೆನ್ನ. ಆದರೆ ನಗರದ ಮೂಲಕ ಆ ವಾಹನಗಳ ಮತ್ತು ಜನಗಳ ಜಂಗುಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಗುವುದು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಸ್ವಲ್ಪವೂ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಇನ್ನೂ ಹೇಳಬೇಕಾದರೆ ಬಹಳ ಕಷ್ಟ ಎಂದೇ ಹೇಳಬೇಕು. ಈ ಟ್ರಾಫಿಕ್ ಎಂಬ ಪೆಡಂಭೂತ ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಕಷ್ಟ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಒಂದು ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ - ಒಂದು ಸಣ್ಣ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನೂ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಈ ಟ್ರಾಫಿಕ್ ಭೂತದ ಒಂದು ಅಣುವಾದರೂ ಆಗಿರುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ಅಮೇರಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿಗಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ವಾಹನಗಳೇ. ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ನಾಲ್ಕು ಚಕ್ರದವುಗಳೇ. ಆದರೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಶಿಸ್ತು ಎಂಥ "ಜ್ಯಾಮ್" ಬಂದರೂ ತಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರೋ! ಬಿಡಿ! ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲ ರೀತಿಯ ವಾಹನಗಳು. ಒಂದು ಚಕ್ರದ ವಾಹನದಿಂದ ಹತ್ತಿಪ್ಪತ್ತು ಚಕ್ರಗಳ ವಾಹನಗಳ ವರೆಗೆ. ಎತ್ತಿನ ಗಾಡಿಯ ಮರದ ಚಕ್ರಗಳಿಂದ ರೋಡ್ ರೋಲರಿನ ಲೋಹದ ಚಕ್ರಗಳ ವರೆಗೆ. ಇವೆರಡರ ನಡುವೆ ಅಸಂಖ್ಯಾತ ರಬ್ಬರಿನ ಚಕ್ರಗಳು. ವಿಶೇಷವೇನೆಂದರೆ ಈ ಎಲ್ಲ ಚಕ್ರಗಳು ಒಂದೇ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ಓಡಾಡುತ್ತವೆ! ವಿವಿಧಭಾರತಿಯ ಹಾಡಿನ ಹಾಗೆ "ವಿವಿಧ ಗತಿ, ಏಕ ಶ್ರುತಿ" ನಮ್ಮ ವಾಹನಗಳವು. ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಓಡಾಡಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲವೇ? ಅಸಾಧ್ಯವಲ್ಲದ್ದು ಏನೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಜನರನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಸುಲಭಸಾಧ್ಯವಾದದನ್ನೂ ಅಸಾಧ್ಯ ಮಾಡಿಬಿಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನೆನಪಿಗೆ ಬರುವ ಒಂದು ಜೋಕನ್ನು ಹೇಳಬೇಕು. ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಜನಪ್ರಿಯವೇ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಬೇಕು. ಕಷ್ಟ ಪಟ್ಟು ಟೈಪಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆಂದು ಇನ್ನೊಮ್ಮೆ ಓದಿಬಿಡಿ. ಪರವಾ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಒಂದು ಲ್ಯಾಬಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಜಾಡಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ದೇಶಗಳ ಕಪ್ಪೆಗಳನ್ನಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರಂತೆ. ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಜಾಡಿಯ ಮೇಲೂ ಮುಚ್ಚಳವಿತ್ತಂತೆ. ಆದರೆ ಇಂಡಿಯ ದೇಶದ ಕಪ್ಪೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಮುಚ್ಚಳವೇ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲವಂತೆ. ಏಕೆ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ ಬಂದ ಉತ್ತರ ಈಗ ಸರ್ವವಿದಿತ. ಒಂದು ಕಪ್ಪೆ ಪರಾರಿಯಾಗಲು ಯತ್ನಿಸಿದಾಗ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಕಪ್ಪೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಕೆಳಗೆಳೆದು ತಾನು ಮೇಲೆ ಹೋಗಲು ಯತ್ನಿಸುವುದು. ಅದನ್ನು ಮಗುದೊಂದು ಕೆಳಗೆಳೆಯುವುದು. ಹೀಗೆ ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಶದ ಶೋಚನೀಯ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಾವು ಜೋಕ್ ಮಾಡಿ ವಿಷಾದದ ನಗೆ ನಗುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಆಗಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದೇ ಶೋಚನೀಯ.

ಇದಿರಲಿ. ಈ ಜೋಕನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ನಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಒಬ್ಬ ದಾರ್ಶನಿಕನ ತಿಳಿವಳಿಕೆಯ ನಗುವನ್ನು ನಗುವವರೇ. ಆದರೆ ನಾವು ಈ ಕಪ್ಪೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಪ್ಪೆಗಳಲ್ಲವೇ? ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಹೌದು. ಈ ಕಾಲೆಳೆಯುವ "ಕಪ್ಪೆತನ" ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಸದಾಕಾಲವಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೂ ಆಗಾಗ ಆವರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಆ ತಾತ್ಕಾಲಿಕ ಕಪ್ಪೆತನೆ ಈ ಟ್ರಾಪಿಕ್ ಭೂತಕ್ಕೂ ಕಾರಣ ಎಂದರೆ ಅಚ್ಚರಿ ಪಡಬೇಕಾದದ್ದೇನೂ ಇಲ್ಲ.

ಈಗ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ವಾಹನಗಳು ಸಂಚರಿಸುತ್ತಿವೆ ಎಂದಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳೋಣ. ಯಾವನೋ ಒಬ್ಬ ಕಾರಿನವ ಅಥವಾ ಒಬ್ಬ ಆಟೋದವ ಅಥವ ಒಬ್ಬ ಬೈಕಿನವ ಮಾಡುವ ಅಚಾತುರ್ಯದಿಂದ ನೂರಾರು ಜನರು ಹತ್ತಿಪ್ಪತ್ತು ನಿಮಿಷಗಳ ಅಮೂಲ್ಯವಾದ ಸಮಯ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇದರಿಂದ ಪಿರಿಪಿರಿಯಾಗುವುದಂತೂ ಆಗುವುದು. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ವಿಳಂಬ. ಅದರಿಂದ ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಕಿರಿಕಿರಿ. ದೇಶಕ್ಕೇ ಹಾನಿಯೆಂದರೂ ಉತ್ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲ.

ಆ ಅಚಾತುರ್ಯದ ರೀತಿ ಹೇಗಿರುತ್ತದೆಯೆಂಬುದು ನಮಗೆಲ್ಲ ತಿಳಿದ ವಿಷಯವೇ! ಒಬ್ಬ ಆಟೋದವ ಹಠಾತ್ತನೆ ಎಡಕ್ಕೆ ಒಬ್ಬ ಕಾರಿನವನ ಮುಂದೆ ಬರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಹೀಗೆ ಬರುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಆ ಆಟೋದವನಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತೇನೋ ಕಾರಣವಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿ. ಹೀಗೆ ಹಠಾತ್ತನೆ ಮುಂದೆ ಬಂದಾಗ ಆ ಕಾರಿನವನು ಜಾಗರೂಕನಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ ಸರಿ. ಇಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ತಾಕಿ ಗಾಡಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಪೆಟ್ಟಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಟೋದವರು (ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಅಲ್ಲ, ಆದರೆ ನಾನು ನೋಡಿದ ಬಹಳ ಮಂದಿ) ಜಗಳಗಂಟರೆಂದೇ ಹೇಳಬೇಕು. ಚಕ್ಕನೆ ಗಾಡಿಯಿಂದ ನೆಗೆದು ಅವಾಚ್ಯ ಶಬ್ದಗಳಿಂದ ಕಾರಿನವನನ್ನು ಬೈಯುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಕಾರಿನವನು ಭಯಸ್ಥನಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ ವಾಕ್ಪ್ರವಾಹ ಏಕಮುಖಿಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಕಾರಿನವನಿಗೂ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಕೈಕೆರೆದಿದ್ದರೆ ಅವನು ಇಳಿದು ಈ ಕಡೆಯಿಂದ ವಾಕ್ಪ್ರಹಾರ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಇಷ್ಟು ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ಅವರ ಹಿಂದೆ ಇರುವ ವಾಹನಗಳಿಂದ ಶಂಖನಾದವೇರಿ ಇವರಿಬ್ಬರ ವಾಗ್ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರೇರಣೆ ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಅವರ ಹಿಂದೆ ಬಂದ ವಾಹನಗಳಿಗೆ ಸ್ಥಳವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಮಹಾವಾಹನಸಂದಣಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಚಾಲಕರಿಬ್ಬರೂ ರಾಜಿಯಾಗಿ ದುಡ್ಡಿನ ಆದಾನಪ್ರದಾನವಾದ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಜಾಗ ಖಾಲಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಆದರೆ ಆ ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ಅನೇಕರಿಗೆ ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತು-ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತೈದು ನಿಮಿಷ ಹೋಗಿಬಿಟ್ಟಿರುತ್ತದೆ.

ಜಗಳ ನಡೆಯಬೇಕಾದರೆ ರಸ್ತೆಯೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಅವರು ಆಕ್ರಮಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಒಂದೆರಡು ಗಾಡಿ ಹೋಗಲು ಜಾಗ ಇದ್ದೇ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವರು ಆ ಜಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾ ಮುಂದು ತಾ ಮುಂದು ಎಂದು ನುಗ್ಗಿದಾಗಲೇ ತೊಂದರೆ ಆರಂಭವಾಗುವುದು. ನಾನು ಜಗಳವಾಡುವವರ ಬಗ್ಗೆಯಲ್ಲ ಮಾತನಾಡಲು ಹೊರಟದ್ದು. ಈ ಬಿಟ್ಟ ಜಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನುಗ್ಗಲು ಯತ್ನಿಸುತ್ತಾರಲ್ಲಾ ಅವರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ. ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯವರಾಗಿಯೇ ಇರುವ ಇವರು (ಇವರನ್ನು ಮನೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ನೋಡಿ - ಒಂದು ಲೋಟ ಕಾಫಿಯ ಆತಿಥ್ಯವನ್ನಂತೂ ಮಾಡಿಯೇ ತೀರುತ್ತಾರೆ) ಹೀಗೆ ಹೊರಗೆ ವಾಹನಾರೂಢರಾಗಿ ತಲೆಯೇ ಕೆಟ್ಟವರ ಹಾಗೆ ಆಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಆಗ ಬರುವ ಇವರ ಯೋಚನೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ನೋಡಿ. ಆ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಜಾಗದ ಮೂಲಕ ಹಾದು ಹೋದರೆ ದೊಡ್ಡ ರಸ್ತೆಯಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇಗ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಸಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಜಾಗವನ್ನು ಬೇಗೆ ಸೇರಬಹುದು. ಇವರು ಮಾತ್ರ ದಾಟಿದರೆ ಸಾಕು. ಪಕ್ಕದ ಗಾಡಿಯವ ಹಾಳಾದರೆ ಹೋಗಲಿ. ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿರುವ ಸೌಜನ್ಯ ಇವರನ್ನು ಅ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ನುಗ್ಗಬೇಕು, ನುಗ್ಗಿ ಮುಂದೆ ಹೋಗಬೇಕು. ಅಷ್ಟು ಮಾಡಿದರೆ ಸಾಕು! ಒಂದು ಐದು ಸೆಕೆಂಡ್ ಯೋಚನೆ ಮಾಡಿದರೂ ಈ ನಿರ್ಧಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರು ಬರುವುದಿಲ - ಅವರು ಸ್ವಾಭಾವಿಕವಾಗಿ ಅಷ್ಟು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯವರೇ ಇರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಆದರೆ ವಾಹನಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಥವಾ ಒಳಗೆ ಕುಳಿತ ಜನರ ವಿವೇಕವೂ ಸೌಜನ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕೂಡಿ ಮಾಯವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ವರ್ತನೆಗಳು ತಿಂಗಳಿಗೊಮ್ಮೆಯಾದರೆ ಪರವಾ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ನಿತ್ಯವೂ ಇದೇ ರಗಳೆಯೇ? ಈ ರೀತಿ ಮಾಡುವವರನ್ನು ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಕೇಳಲೇ ಬೇಕು. ಈ ರೀತಿ ಆತುರದಿಂದ ನುಗ್ಗಿ ಹೊರಟು ಅವರ ಜಾಗವನ್ನು ಐದು ನಿಮಿಷ ಮುಂಚಿತವಾಗಿಯೇ ಸೇರಿದರು ಎಂದಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳೋಣ. ಆ ಐದು ನಿಮಿಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂಥ ಘನಕಾರ್ಯ ಮಾಡಬಹುದು? ಐದು ನಿಮಿಷಗಳು ಅಮೂಲ್ಯವಾದ ಸಮಯವೇನೋ ಹೌದು. ಆದರೆ, ಇಂಥ ಸಮಯ ಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆಯ ಜನರೇ ಇವರಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಶ ಇನ್ನೂ ಮುಂದೆ ಇರುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲವೇ?

ಆ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ಇವರ ಸಮಯಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆ ಜಾಗೃತವಾಗುವುದು ಸೋಜಿಗದ ವಿಷಯವೇ ಸರಿ. ಅವರ ಐದು ಸೆಕೆಂಡಿನ ಸಮಯವನ್ನು ಯೋಚನೆಮಾಡಿ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ವರ್ತಿಸಿ ಜ್ಯಾಮನ್ನು ನಿವಾರಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಬೇರೆಯವರಿಗೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರೆ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸಮಯದ ಜೊತೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದ ಸಂತೋಷವೂ ಸಿಗುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲವೇ? ಆದರೆ ಪಾಪ! ಒಬ್ಬೊಬ್ಬರೇ ಮಾಡಿದರೆ ತಮಗೇ ಕಷ್ಟ ತಂದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ ಅಷ್ಟೆ. ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಹೀಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಆ ಅಮೂಲ್ಯವಾದ ಐದು ಸೆಕೆಂಡಿನ ಅವಧಿಯನ್ನು ದಾನ ಮಾಡಿದರೆ - ಇಷ್ಟು ಭಾರೀ ಟ್ರಾಫಿಕ್ ಕೂಡ ತಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಹಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ನಮ್ಮವರು ಆತುರಗಾರರು ಮತ್ತು ತಮ್ಮ ಕಿಂಚಿತ್ ಸಮಯವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬರಿಗೆ ನೀಡಲು ಮನಸ್ಸು ಬಾರದ ಜಿಪುಣರು.

ಈ ಆತುರ-ಜಿಪುಣತೆಗಳು ತೊಲಗಿದರೆ ನಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರ ನಗರ ಸಂಚಾರ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಸುಲಭವಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದು ನನ್ನ ನಂಬಿಕೆ. ನೀವೇನನ್ನುತ್ತೀರಿ?

Wardriving in Bangalore

Yesterday I was in my car reading a presentation on my laptop. Suddenly I had the bright idea of switching my Wireless radio on and see what would happen. As I travel via MG Road everyday, that was where I did some harmless checking. Well, I shouldn't be calling it wardriving as I just wanted to see how many WiFi networks were in Bangalore.

As I switched on my wireless radio near Trinity Circle (Ulsoor road to be precise), I caught at least 4-5 networks. Most of them didn't have a WEP lock icon next to them. I even tried getting in a couple and I would have succeeded in browsing had my car not continued to move. Some have just the usual NETGEAR and Linksys SSIDs without bothering to do anything.

Some however did have WEP and I couldn't get on some because of some problem. There was a service provider whose wireless portal I was able to access.

The Capitol hotel on Raj Bhavan road has a free for all network. If anybody needs to get some free browsing done, sip a coffee at the India Coffee House next door and I am sure you will be able to get on the internet. I didn't even try and I know I could have succeeded easily here.

Even near older areas like Malleswaram, I could find one or two networks.

I for one was glad to see that there were a lot of people gone WiFi in Bangalore. I will probably try this again in a couple of days and see what has changed. Also, I should try this in a couple of other areas of Bangalore to estimate how tech-savvy Bangalore really is.

rues the Ancient Mariner. If he had this system, he probably wouldn't have that much of a problem. This system was tested on water from an open ditch in Jakarta and it produced water deemed drinkable by the Environmental Protection Agency. NASA is thinking of using this in their missions as this will eliminate a lot of the water carrying problem. I wonder how this system will cope with Bangalore's notorious VrishabhAvati !

Anyway, one thing that was not mentioned by Water Security, the company that makes this system, is how much the system costs. The cost of clean water is apparently 3c per gallon but what about the chemicals used in it ? Does their manufacturing involve toxic chemicals/byproducts? That should have also been commented on by the piece's author.

Nevertheless, this looks like it will be a boon to parts of the world where an acute shortage of drinking water persists whether it rains or not!

Looking at the growth in population and the depletion of water resources to such an extent, it seems to me that the next big conflict will be for water. Right now it is just about oil. But fifty years from now, with the population at an unprecedented level, there is bound to be competition for water. A big problem in addition to the increase in population is a corresponding decrease in the groundwater levels - which is really alarming.

In Bangalore, especially, I personally know that we could hit water at 100ft from the surface less than 10 years ago. Now I've seen people dig close to 1000 ft unsuccessfully. Digging to that extent is definitely illegal - but who seems to care? A person owning a plot of land needs water and can't depend on the city water company. What does he do ? He drills into the earth. This greed across all sections of society has depleted the water levels.

Even in villages, farmers now grow cash crops that are not all natural to the climate. So what do they do ? They dig borewells and pump out water like it is nobody's business. And when the wells go dry, well - what else? How do you blend human need with concern for the environment?

Rainwater harvesting is a great solution to this problem. To its credit, the Karnataka government is making it mandatory for all the new houses to have a rainwater harvesting scheme in place. Villages also get this with assistance from the government. But people should feel that this problem is theirs. Only then can a real solution be implemented.

Research on systems such as the one from Water Security should be carried on across the world's labs. For nothing is more necessary for our existence than air and water.

Srikkanth's latest ad in Bangalore

A couple of days ago, I noticed an ad by the former Indian opening batsman Krishnamachari Srikkanth. The ad is for a lens company - Varilux. It has Srikkanth saying - "I read my newspaper just as I used to read a Marshall delivery".

Srikkanth, though exciting, wasn't a consistent player at all. Nor was he reliable. He could hit a very good ball for six and get bowled by a very simple delivery. I remember that he always struggled against Imran Khan and Wasim Akram. Marshall - hmm... I don't remember but I think Srikkanth didn't read him all that well at all. Marshall was a genuine quick bowler and one of the West Indian greats. So that ad line probably isn't too good for the lens maker.

Srikkanth's record doesn't convey the kind of feeling that Indian fans had whenever he came out to bat. His inconsistency proved to be his doom. Though a very intelligent cricketer, I think he lacked the temperament like that of a Tendulkar or a Dravid or even that of an Azharuddin. If he had that, Srikkanth would have made justice to his immense potential.

It turns out that Srikkanth used to hum from both of these whenever he did his customary walk from half-way to the square leg empire back to the stumps - between deliveries. Pretty strange, eh? Srikkanth was like that - a bag of contrasts. He makes a pretty good commentator on TV nowadays. He has a good business and making money as the 'brand ambassador' for some brands... (who is not a brand ambassador nowadays? )

This is the kind of thing that is happening in Bangalore. This particular flyover should have been completed in April 2004 and it looks like it won't happen for another year.

Arggh ! Why don't both the UP-Bridge-building-whatever and BDA see the hardships that people are going through? Or, should the people just threaten them?

The completion of this flyover will save 20 minutes of time for people travelling across Airport Road as well as for the people going from Koramangala to Indiranagar.

BMTC demarcates routes for Volvo buses - Deccan Herald - Internet Edition

This is welcome news for somebody like me. I commute by car everyday to work and that is really a pain. I also get bothered because doing as I do pollutes the environment further and I end up guilty.

With this step, some volvo buses will be used in the route I use (for at least half) and this will benefit me a lot as it will save money and the environment.

Waiting for this eagerly.

I am infuriated by the behavior of this self-styled security expert. What is wrong with this guy ? He has put a lot of people in his company and other people to inconvenience to say the least. Look at the number of people affected by this guy's moronic behavior. Apparently his company has no work for him which seems to be why he was thinking of doing such things.

And look at this guy's intelligence! He goes to a coin operated booth and calls his wife after placing a warning to his company. Good that the police were able to trace the call to him. It is a pity that he was released on bail. Such miscreants and trouble-makers must be sentenced to at least a year in prison so that it serves as a lesson for other people with such intentions.

The LeT threat is not to be taken as an empty one. When police and other security forces are working to address such problems, foolish pranks like these will result in the police not responding to even genuine calls for help. This is what this person has caused.

I hope he gets fired from his company for doing such mischief. Self-righteous idiot! His intention was probably good - but isn't the path to hell paved with such good intentions ? Or was he trying to get a day off this way?

May the number of such people decrease!
